Fancy being a Dental Hygienist

Dental Hygiene is one of the countries growing professions, and one which is currently experiencing and above average growth phase. This could be due in part to the increasing number of people who are living longer and who can afford to look after their teeth and oral hygiene in general. This has increased the demand for more Dental Hygienists and for dental hygienist schools in which they can become qualified.

To qualify as a Dental Hygienist takes dedication and whilst the dental hygiene programs are not as intensive as those of a full blown Dentist, it still requires a great deal of study and effort to pass an accredited state program.

The introduction of Dental Hygienists has enabled Dentists to concentrate on the key dentistry skills and to leave the other essential tasks of cleaning the teeth and gums and general oral health to a registered dental hygienist.

A Dental Hygienist salary is usually well above the average state pay range with an hourly rate often in the $35 to $50 range depending on which state and the practice location they are in. There is an anticipated requirement for more than 30% qualified dental hygienists over the next 5 year which makes this a very worthwhile profession to consider.

If you are a caring person and get on well with people this is also a very rewarding job helping and advising folk on how to look after their teeth and other oral conditions and prevent future problems can be very satisfying.

Taking everything into account enrolling in a dental hygienist school program, despite all the hard work could well be a very lucrative career choice. Records show that even in 2009 the highest paid dental hygienists received a salary in excess of more than  $97,000. Job security and great benefits add to the attraction of this as a career and also for moms looking for a part time position to fit in with the family.
